About

Zero Degrees South chronicles (some of) our adventures (and mis-adventures) in East Africa.  David and I headed for the equator back in the summer of 2011 to work for an agricultural micro-finance in Western Kenya.

We've both lived a lot of places.  If you average it all out (and I did), it would appear we should have ended up floating pretty much dead center in the Atlantic Ocean.  But, that's because David lived his whole childhood in Africa and I lived my whole childhood in the American Midwest.  So, I re-ran the analysis using only the places we've lived as adults.  This time, we wound up about 2 blocks away from our honeymoon destination in the Yucatan.  Fun coincidence?  Yes.  But, since the honeymoon has to end at some point, we've moved on physically too.  To 7 Degrees, 43 Minutes South.

So, check your bucket-list.  If you've made it long enough, I imagine you'll find "African safari" on there somewhere.  Maybe it appears as "7 Summits" or "Find out if Zanzibar is a real place," or "See the Southern Cross."  Ticking off any of these could land you in our vicinity and so the coordinates are important, even if we're not quite as close to the equator as we once were.  Whatever the reason for your visit, we can still help you find a cold beer and good food -- now served up fresh in Iringa, Tanzania.
